Account Deletion

Account Deletion & Data Retention Policy

Last updated: 2026-10-12

Introduction

This policy explains how to request deletion of your NutriPet account, what the service attempts to remove, what may take longer, and which limited records may need to be retained.

1. How to Delete Your Account

You can request the deletion of your NutriPet account and all associated data through the following methods:

Method 1: In-App Deletion

This is the fastest way to block account access and start deletion. If any cleanup step cannot finish, the app or service will report that partial result so support can complete it.

  • Open the NutriPet App
  • Go to Settings (Gear icon)
  • Scroll down to the "Account Actions" section
  • Tap "Delete Account"
  • Follow the confirmation prompts (This action is irreversible)

Method 2: Web Request (Manual)

If you cannot access the app, you may submit a deletion request via email.

  • Email us at support@nutripet.app
  • Use the subject line: "Account Deletion Request"
  • Please send the email from the address associated with your NutriPet account
  • We will process your request within 7 business days and confirm via email

2. What Data is Deleted?

When you delete your account, NutriPet starts removing the following data from active production systems. Removal is designed to happen immediately where possible and to finish within 30 days; limited audit, purchase, security, and backup records are handled as described below.

  • Identity Information: Your active account profile, email address, display name, and sign-in data. A limited deleted-account audit keeps the former account identifier—but not the email address—for up to 365 days solely for deletion reconciliation, stale-token protection, security, and legal claims
  • Account Avatar: Your private account profile photo, avatar metadata, and active upload policy
  • Pet Profiles: All created pet profiles, including names, breeds, ages, and photos
  • Scan History: Your entire history of barcode and food scans
  • Food Journal: Logs of meals, treats, and feeding records for pets you own. Meals you contributed to another owner's pet remain with that pet's journal, with your account attribution removed during account deletion
  • Training Practices: Device-local training drafts and saved practices are removed when account-deletion cleanup completes on that device. These records are not in Cloud Backup
  • Household Sharing: Your membership, invitations, and pet-sharing grants are removed. If you own the household, it is closed. Limited hashed security records expire after 90 days
  • Custom Data: Any custom foods (my foods), notes, or preferences you have saved
  • Cloud Backup Data: Your data backed up to our cloud servers, encrypted in transit and at rest

3. Data Retention & Backups

What Happens First

  • Account access is blocked before data cleanup continues
  • Removal from active databases begins immediately; a partial result is reported if a cleanup step fails
  • Your profile photo is hidden and its Storage object is queued for retry-safe deletion

Retention Period

  • Backups: encrypted disaster-recovery backups may retain copies for up to 30 days. Those copies age out under the backup-retention schedule and are not restored into an active account after deletion.
  • Legal & Safety: Limited moderation, appeal, security, and account-deletion audit records are retained for no more than 365 days. Account-deletion audit records keep the former account identifier but not the deleted email address and have an enforced expiry. Removed image files are not retained for moderation purposes.

Third-Party Services

  • Subscriptions: Deleting your account DOES NOT automatically cancel your subscription if purchased via Apple App Store or Google Play Store. You must manually cancel your subscription in your phone settings to avoid future charges.
  • Analytics: account-linked pseudonymous events are deleted or unlinked; raw pseudonymous records expire within 13 months and non-identifying aggregate reporting expires within 36 months.

4. Deleting Part of Your Data

You do not need to delete your entire account to manage your data. The NutriPet app allows you to:

  • Delete individual Pets: Open the pet's profile → Tap the trash icon in the top-right corner → Confirm deletion
  • Clear Scan History: Go to Settings → Data & Storage → Clear Scan History
  • Clear Food Journal: Go to Settings → Data & Storage → Clear Food Journal
  • Remove Profile Photo: Go to Settings → your account profile → Profile Photo and choose initials or a preset icon
