Choose records that answer the same question
The app's comparison service keeps several boundaries explicit. Start with the intended pet and exact formula.
- Select up to three saved scans. Check their names and available package information against the foods you are considering.
- Keep species consistent. Cross-species comparisons are blocked; a dog food and cat food should not compete for one pet's diet.
- Check the product type. A packaged food and a whole food have limited comparability, even when both have been scanned.
Read evidence before ranking
Our suggested reading order is identity, warnings, evidence coverage, then ingredient context. A better-looking letter cannot resolve a separate warning or missing field.
- Review species mismatch and safety alerts separately from the ingredient grade.
- Look for unrecognized ingredients and uncertain product information. Unknown is not the same as absent.
- Return to the pack for complete or complementary wording, life stage and feeding directions. The comparison is not a nutrient-completeness assessment.
A comparison without a winner
Invented example: Food A has a readable ingredient list; Food B has an unresolved ingredient; Food C is a different product type. You have three different evidence situations, not a podium.
- Write one next question beside each food: confirm intended use, clarify the ingredient, or choose a comparable record.
- If your pet has a medical diet or ongoing reactions, bring these questions and the actual labels to your veterinary team.
- New scans require NutriPet Pro. These instructions describe saved-record comparison, not free access to new scans or guaranteed offline availability.
FAQ
How many foods can I compare?
The current comparison accepts up to three saved scans, subject to the species and product-type limits described above.
Does the highest grade settle what I should buy?
No. Ingredient context, safety alerts, missing data, intended use and your pet's needs are different questions. A grade alone does not settle them.

Keep your food checks together
NutriPet lets you return to saved checks and compare their ingredient context. New scans require Pro; comparison retains species and product-type limits.
